* To introduce local people to the mural as a public art
* Building up the confidence to work on a piece of ar
* To increase understanding of the importance of look after the enand to encourage individual responsibility
* To create practical lesson, which can be used by local people to beatify the
area
Target audience
The priority was to communicate with local people, especially those from the area, but also residents of Penang town.
2. Multi-sensorial journey into Chew Jetty-Workshop by Naima Dell’Ava
Date: 24th August to 30th August 2009
Guidance along a creative path that stimulate all the senses into a multisensory exploration of the body, using the channels of movement, shape, color and sound.
A living tale to plunge with imagination into the depth of Chew Jetty’s surroundings with the sense of touch, smell, hearing, sight and taste.
Different solicitations will involve the participants in a spontaneous kinesthetic art work.
All is required is no inhibition and comfortable clothes (you may get splashed!), every people from every age is more than welcome!
Maximum 15 participants for each session.
(many session are available, also special session for schools on request)
NAIMA DELL’AVA is a MusicArtsTherapist and Performer from Italy, her works join visual arts with music, dance and theatre. She used to work with children and adults, handicap people, victims of torture of war, victims of sexual abuses in different realities like schools, NGO, social centers, slums, refugee and gipsy camps, south american’s favelas. She performed in different contexts as in festivals and independents art projects around Italy, France, Spain, U.S.A., Argentina and India; she is a member of the companies “The Living Theatre” and “Malamurga” .
3. Jetty.Com Creations
A Creative Movement Production by Elaine Pedley
Date: 26th Aug: 2.5-hour workshop
27th Aug: 2.5-hour workshop
28th Aug: 2.5-hour workshop with very short presentation at the end.
Target group: teenagers (non-exam students)
Target number: 20 participants
Time: 4:30-7pm each day
Having performed professionally for two decades, Elaine Pedley is now an accomplished actor, presenter, dancer and facilitator.
Her many theatrical performances include Family (performed at the Berlin Arts Festival 1999), Manchester United and The Malay Warrior (performed in Manchester in conjunction with the Commonwealth Games 2002 Cultural Festival), Spring in Kuala Lumpur (collaboration with Japan-based theatre company Pappa Tarahumara), Cameronian Arts Awards winner of best play, Spilt Gravy on Rice, Datin Marion D’Cruz’s Bunga Manggar Bunga Raya and the latest, Cuckoo Birds.
She has also worked intensively in the film industry as well, having acted in a movie, telemovie, vcd series and sitcoms, as well as choreographed for and acted in ads.
She was the choreographer and presentations consultant for the Miss Malaysia Fitness 2004 pageant, the Miss Asia Pacific Woman Fitness 2004 championships, the International Fitness Women’s Championships 2005 and Fitkid International Championships 2007. She choreographed for Malaysian Idol 2004, Audition 2005 and So You Think You Can Dance 2008.
Her performing arts experience has taken her to Paris, Cannes, Noumea, Beijing, Shanghai, Berlin, Manchester, Bangalore, Singapore and Bali.
She was nominated for Best Featured Performer, Cameronian Arts Awards 2007 and 2009, Best Group Performance 2008 for both theatre and dance categories, and won Best Ensemble for Dance in 2002.
4. Live! Museum: Living on Waters
Mapping the Penang Clan Jetties
This interdisciplinary art project consists of a children’s workshop with a final product in the form of a site-specific exhibition. This workshop will be opened to the local children and visiting participants (if any) .

Objectives: 1) For the local and visitors to know and to understand the clan jetty culture/customs before they disappear
2) To interpret the idea of a museum in a intangible, interactive and contemporary way
3) To create a self-guided tour map of the clan jetties for future visitors that will
be informative and enrich their visit through the participants personal stories.
Outline of Project:
The children will participate in the workshops and learn methods of storytelling using objects that are connected to either the history or characteristic of the place or a personal experience. They will engage in exploring the location and play tour guide to the facilitators. These stories will be collected for the exhibition and made into printed material that will be displayed at the sites. The children will also design the tour route and assist in the creation of the map. These maps will be printed for distribution and will be made part of the promotion of the clan jetties as a tourist destination.
Profile of Project Connect:
Tan Hui Koon prefers to call herself an art practitioner who enjoy arts in everyday life, to live as artily as her grandfather did. Her grandfather is the most inspiring person who was house builder who retired in early age, and enjoyed living, fixing broken things and creating recycled tools for daily living. She found that the best philosophy is to save life and resource energy. She graduated as BA (HONS) in Fine Art from University Science Malaysia in 2007.
Patricia Low is a writer, illustrator and theatre-maker when she is not lecturing at a private university-college. She is constantly seeking for ways to integrate the arts and the community. She graduated with a BA in English (Hons) from University of Malaya.
Fairuz Sulaiman is a video artist who works freelance. He is well-known for providing visuals at local gigs and has exhibited at Valentine Willie Fine Art Gallery with collaborator Callen Thum.
Nurul Hamizah Mohamad considers herself as an arts worker. She is currently working as facilitator in Fallen Leaves Theatre Company touring with them in schools, hospitals, rehab centres and outreach groups.

George Wielgus, established poet and loudmouth, will run workshops designed to get even the shyest recluse up onstage speaking emphatically and clearly about whatever they choose. Open to all ages, with potential to perform at opening.
